This has been a big month of milestones for young Henry.  He started the month not really communicating much excpet by crying.  Here are his achievements:

Clapping – 20 July

Waving – 22 July

Signed ‘lights’ – 1 August

Signed ‘more’ – 2 August

He can say dada, mama, and much to my disappointment, nyah nyah which means no. He also just started says ‘d’ for duck.

He loves to talk on his pretend cell phone and we tell him to talk to dad so he says dada into the phone.

He is climbing on everything including the seat of his ride on toys.  All cars, bikes and the activity table have been confiscated as Henry has been found standing on them waving and not being able to get down.

He has had 3 bleeding mouth incidents.

He is taking one 3 hour nap per day from 12pm-3pm or some variation.

He loves music and likes dancing to it.  He loves it when we have music time in Lucy’s room.  Henry always chooses to play the drum.

He loves his big sister!

Henry, Henry Benry, Huckleberry, Big  Boy, Brudder.  These are just some of the names that Henry will answer to.

On his birthday he officially had 6 teeth at various stages.  He also had 2 others that were just cutting through his gums.

He’s had 2 haircuts.  His hair grows really fast.  I think we’ll be cutting his hair with clippers soon as it could get expensive going to the hairdresser every 2 months.

Sleeping has been a struggle this year.  Since we’ve been back from NM we’ve made a big effort in this regard.  He gave up his dummy/pacifier very easily, in fact he didn’t miss it at all. However he wasn’t happy about giving up his bottle of formula in the middle of the night. We started with just giving him water (he knew what we were doing and squealed loudly) and then he realised we weren’t giving in.  Then a week later he had his first night with no disturbances.  He’s had a few nights through but he’s still hungry at one point or another.  The latest strategy is that we’re waking him at 11pm and feeding him some fruit.

He has stopped using bottles and now he uses sippy cups.  Also he is now drinking cows milk.

He loves lamb (but did you expect anything else?) He likes most food.

He is starting to get clingy and doesn’t want Andrew or I to leave the room without him.

He gives the best cuddles especially when he is waking up.

He points.

He can sign fan.  He is learning lights and more.

He has fabulous smiles.

He is sensitive to loud noises.  If sissy shouts at him he will cry.

Loves dirt.  Loves to play it in and eat it.  Same goes for sand, grass, and gypsum.

Talks alot but we can’t understand anything except ‘dad’ and ‘bo’ (bottle)

He crosses his feet when he sits in his highchair.

Loves being chased (esp. when he is running away with something he’s not supposed to have)

If he sees an open door/gate he runs as fast as he can to get through.

His favourite stuffed toys are Tim (monkey) and Rupert (dog)

He can climb steps and anything else he puts his mind to.

He loves to pull towers, blocks and lego apart.

He LOVES his big sister Lucy.  He wants to be with her and do what she is doing.  He wants to pull her hair.  Henry gives some of his biggest smiles to Lucy.  He loves to be silly with Lucy.

He loves to drive the car with Dad down the driveway when Dad comes home from work.

He is such a happy easy going boy.  We love having him in our family.

I took some photos of Henry today and I have chosen three that tell the story of his life at the moment: running, chewing and laughing.

It’s official!

Mon 17 May 2010

Henry is walking. After taking his first steps on Lucy’s birthday at 9 months and 29 days, he is now at 10  months officially labelled a ‘walker’. go Huckleberry!

Cowboy Henry

Henry is 10 months old.  He is such a cuddly, pinchable, smiley boy that everyone adores him.  He is very popular at church and I rarely hold him as there are so many willing arms.

Some other updates:

  • on Lucy’s birthday he took his first steps (three in a row).  He now takes steps frequently but isn’t walking yet. He cruises and crawls very fast.
  • he puts anything and everything in his mouth.  I frequently pull out bark, paper and even pebbles from his jaws (which he attempts to clamp shut)
  • he hates having his nose wiped (he’s got a cold)
  • he still wakes up once a night for a bottle.  For the past month its been at midnight but its just switched this week to 4am
  • he loves chewing on lamb bones
  • he hates being strapped into his highchair so he arches his back every time we approach it
  • he still loves bath time but now instead of sitting in his chair he likes to stand in his chair
  • he has his first pair of black converse shoes (size 4)
  • he is wearing size 18-24 months (the cowboy suit above is size 18 months and I could hardly get him in it)
  • he has a third tooth.  And it is as weird as it sounds.  His first two teeth are at the bottom in the middle.  The third tooth is on the top, way to the left.
  • he still loves banana but he also likes olives, cucumber, sweet potato, lamb, and spaghetti bolognese.
  • he still says dadadada continually as well as letting out lots of grunts (loud grunts!), sometimes he says mamamamama but not to me.  When he is unhappy about something his grunts become ALOT louder
  • he loves waiting out on the front lawn for daddy to come home from work
  • he is not sure about his new swing set.  he likes it for a while but doesn’t like the restriction of being strapped in

We can’t wait for 12 months – cow’s milk, turning the car seat around, walking etc

Henry has his wellness check up at the doctor today.  He is doing great.  The latest news is that he can stand for about 10 seconds without holding on to anything.  The boy’s sole aim in life is to walk and I think it will be coming soon.  He is a very wiggly active baby who won’t sit still to read even one board book. He says ‘dadadadadadadadada’.  He likes having baths with sissy.
