Happy Birthday Andrew

Andrew celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday and the baby stayed happily in utero.
Andrew celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday and the baby stayed happily in utero.
After last week’s controversial entry I’m not sure what to write about today. At least there won’t be any phone calls to my parents telling them there is a nude photo of me on the internet and freaking them out.
Here are some photos of Baby Thoms’ room. I figured that it was never going to look this neat and tidy ever again so we should take some photos now as record for
posterity. The only thing I’m just waiting on is a window box to put some plants in. To date Andrew has done a great job in painting, lighting, electrical work and shelving.
So what happened last week? As recommended by my doctor, due to blood pressure of 130/85, I did actually take it easy. I had morning tea with Kate, afternoon tea with Cara, worked on the recipe database, scrapbooked 3 years of Christmas photos, re-potted a lot of Madonna lilies, watched a couple of DVD’s that weren’t worth watching (but started a new cross stitch called ‘Going to Market’) and cooked an awesome pork roast with the best crackling ever! Both the washing machine and oven, both 30 years old, broke during the week but have had replacement parts fitted so hopefully they will last a bit longer! This week sees lots of celebrations for Andrew’s 30th birthday. Which may or may not have to be cancelled!
On another note there are a couple of things that have been annoying me that I thought I would share:
It’s 38 weeks and Andrew is starting to get worried as his birthday is coming up and he doesn’t want to share it with the baby. (We will be having a big party for Andrew’s 30th after the baby is born so stay tuned. I have bought the best present ever!!) My ankles are still swollen, the heartburn has come back and apparently I have started waddling around. These complaints are very minor as I feel fine and Andrew tells me that I still look good.
Last week I hung out with Angie and kids, cooked dinner for bible study, cleaned the microwave, shopped until my ankles wouldn’t take it anymore, made devil’s food cupcakes, attended our last ante-natal class, went to church for Easter, and got my hair cut. Renovations and cleaning around the house intensified over the Easter break – the freezer was cleaned out and is now full of Lean Cuisines ($3 each at Coles), the rumpus room (including lounges) was totally cleaned and the back yard has been stripped bare and flattened (Thanks to the grandparents for their hard work!)
I can’t believe there’s only 2 weeks to go.
I saw the doctor again yesterday and mentioned my swollen ankles. So he checked my blood pressure which turns out to be normal at 120/80. However it is not normally this high so he is going to monitor it to see what happens.
He also put me on a baby heart monitor for 15 minutes. There were lots of fluctuations and got quite high (175) when baby thoms moved around. He looked at the read out and said “it’s all good, you have a VERY active baby”
Well its mostly all good but my ankles are swollen and the heartburn has come back. And sleeping is uncomfortable. I’m not complaining it’s just keeping a record of what’s going on so that when I am sleep deprived I can look back and remember clearly.
Again last week was another big week with Lynda’s graduation, craft, SWAG, ante-natal classes, bible study, Andrew working on the deck etc. The washing machine is busted so I spent Saturday at mum’s using her machine and putting my feet up (mostly). Hopefully Andrew can fix it otherwise I will be out shopping again.
Keep being patient baby Thoms as there’s still lots of things to do!
We met my new doctor yesterday and thankfully he was very nice and very helpful. The good news is that the baby’s head is engaged! (which explains why the heartburn disappeared a week or so ago) The doctor did an ultrasound and measured the head and legs – the head size is big and is measuring in at the 37-38 week mark. The doctor estimates the baby will be 8-8.5 pounds when born. So I guess the news is that birth is imminent…
Things were a little crazy this week. Who would have thought that staying at home could keep you so busy? (and this is without the baby in tow!)
Highlights include:
So I’m a little tired and looking forward to taking it easy this coming week.
