Our gorgeous girl continues to grow well. She is still sleeping really well at night but wants to be up and about during the day instead of sleeping.
What’s happened this week?
| We attended the Thoms family May birthdays party. The birthdays celebrated were Lucy’s on the 4th, Lynda’s on the 8th, Pop’s on the 12th, and Nan’s on the 17th |
 |
 |
We had breakfast in Cronulla which included Lucy’s first adventure post-birth to the beach (and it was raining!) |
| Auntie Lynda conducted a photo shoot |

In other news not documented by photos:
- Lucy’s umbilical cord came off last Thursday
- We visited the baby health clinic to meet other mums and bubs
- Lucy gained 200g in weight (she is now 4.33kg)
- Visitors included Jackie, Kel and Dave
- Lucy has decided she loves bath time and loves to stretch out her arms superman style
- She doesn’t like U2 but likes ABBA
- Lucy is not so good at getting wind out and this makes her cranky!
A question we have been asked is ‘who does Lucy look like?’ Here you can decide for yourself with photos of both Andrew and I when we were babies

WHAT A WEEK! Not only did we have our first outing on Saturday, our first trip to church on Sunday but there was also mothers day to celebrate and the baby health clinic to visit.
First Outing
Our first outing was for Dave’s 30th birthday café crawl in Glebe. (A birthday he now shares with Lucy) Amazingly we were the first people to arrive! Divine Monkey serves an awesome buttermilk pancake with stewed rhubarb topped with banana yoghurt. Lucy was a social butterfly meeting lots of people for the first time and enjoying every minute of it. After breakfast we went over to Glebe markets to pick up a frame for Lucy’s cross stitch birth sampler and had a quick wander around. Luckily we brought a backpack to carry her in because the pram would have been a little awkward. The next part of the day was very exciting for me. After making a few ‘wrong’ turns to get home from Glebe we ended up at Cerrones jewellers to pick up a watch. Andrew had organised a very special present for me for giving birth – here is a picture of it.
It is awesome. I figured that if I had to wear a watch (which I haven’t done so for about 4 years) then it might as well be a good one. We then stopped in at the Pet Barn to pick up food for our poor neglected dog and then onto my parents so that Lucy could have a feed. After leaving the house in a rush at 8am with a million bags in tow we finally got home at 4:30pm and I was tired (but happy)!
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
I had a very good mothers day with most of the day spent looking after Lucy of course. I received a voucher for a pedicure from Andrew, a voucher for a back massage from Lucy, flowers from my cousin and a voucher from my parents to spend on anything I want! Andrew also made pancakes for breakfast and Lucy slept for most of the morning. We stopped in at Grandma & Grandads, then went to church and then back to Nan & Grandpa’s for supper. And after crying all afternoon Lucy was an angel for every visit. I think she must like all the excitement.
No sleep (for Lucy)
Lucy seems to have gotten into a pattern of crying all day but sleeping well at night. This means I get a few good sleeps at night and pull my hair out during the day. But the good part is that it is easier to deal with the crying when I’m not totally exhausted.
Back in my jeans again
Please don’t send me hate mail but given the level of crying over the last few days I need something to feel good about. 8 days after Lucy was born I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans. I admit that they are the ones I bought in the US and were always loose but they are not exactly tight on me now. I can fit into all the clothes I had before I got sick and lost weight. I weighed myself at my parents and came in at 60kg. If memory serves me right the scales are light by 2kg so I am probably 62kg which is just 3kg off my ‘normal’ weight.
Baby Health Clinic
Tuesday saw our first visit to the baby health clinic. Lucy has grown 4cm and is now 55cm long. She is also supposed to put on 150-200g in weight per week and this week she put on 300g! So she is nearly back to the 4kg she weighed when she was born. She is in the top percentile for girls for height, weight and head circumference. Long legs, long feet, long fingers – this girl is going places.
Anyway I’ve got to go we are heading off to craft group this morning. No wonder we don’t have a routine if we keep going out all the time!

Here is our beautiful baby at one week old. She has large hands and feet like her dad and likes to hold tight onto your finger.
It’s hard to believe that this time last week the back pain I was feeling was the start of labour. Lucy’s birth was everything we were praying for – fast and easy. God has been so gracious to us in the past week and we have not stopped thanking him for all the wonderful ways he is working in our lives.
Today is our third day home from hospital. So how has it been? It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. The first day and night were fine but Lucy has been unsettled since. This is because my milk hasn’t fully come in and her stomach is gurgling and she is feeling very uncomfortable. Hopefully things will change in the next day or two. Lucy has been really good at night so I had about 7 hours sleep last night and feel ok. Andrew is not as good as he chose to stay up until the 1:30am feed instead of going to bed at 10:30pm like I did. But then again he is pretty used to minimal sleep – he just won’t have the opportunity to catch up on the weekends anymore. Andrew has been a rock in the last week as he has dealt with his two crying girls. Next week is going to be hard when he goes back to work.
Church has organised two weeks of dinners to be delivered to our house so I don’t have to worry about cooking for a while. THANK YOU! We have very much been enjoying the meals esp. because we would have been eating lean cuisines every day otherwise.
Thank you to everyone that has sent flowers or presents. We have been so inundated with flowers that we run out of vases. It’s also been fun to get some pretty pink dresses.
I am slowly going through my 75 unread emails but this may take a while due to interruptions! Andrew is uploading photos every couple of days so you should check back regularly to get the latest ones.

I am writing this from my hospital bed in the few minutes before Lucy wakes up for the next feed. She ia a beautiful baby who is feeding really well but unlike her father she doesn’t like sleeping (well getting to sleep anyway) So as a result I am a little sleep deprived.
So how did the birth go? It was reasonably fast – I had regular contractions for about 6 hours (being painful for about 4 hours). The midwife predicted a 2am birth but by 9pm when I was asking for an epidural the doctor was suprised to find I was very close to having the baby. Therefore no epidural! We were also suprised to have a 9lb baby. It just goes to show that you can’t tell the size of the baby by the size of the bump.
Yesterday, Just like last Sunday, Andrew and I headed down to Cronulla beach for an hour but this time without Lucy (while the midwives babysat) I look a little different! But we are looking forward to being able to come here as a family and play in the sand.
We will be going home tomorrow morning. The phone will probibly be off the hook at times but feel free to email any time and I can give you a call back during a non-sleep period. From now on I will be updating the website every Thursday to let you know Lucy’s progress.

It’s the 1st of May, also May Day, Labour Day and Bank Holiday (UK). I was going to say ‘we made it’ to 40 weeks but that would give the impression that this pregnancy has been under sufferance when it has been anything but. Baby Thoms is very happily ensconced in utero and has made no moves to leave yet. This is a good thing for Andrew as he was able to celebrate his birthday in fine style last week eating lamb at pretty much every meal. He was also very surprised by his new ‘Andrew’s Pizza’ logo and loved all of the various merchandise. Thanks to Jordan for his great design. You can check out the photos at http://andrewspizza.hobby-site.org/ and see Andrew with the widest grin ever!
Here is a photo of Baby Thoms at South Cronulla beach yesterday and here are the answers to your commonly asked questions:
Have you had the baby yet? No and don’t panic because we will ring/email you when I do
Are you feeling ok still? Yes I feel great even though my blood pressure is still going up
When are you seeing the doctor next? Today
When are you having the baby? Hmm… you’ll have to wait to find out!
