Here is the beautiful Lucinda Rose in a dress sent from London by her Auntie Kat. All dressed up to go out for lunch – a pink dress, pink shoes, a pink hat and a pink blanket. Despite my best intentions to get her to like red I think she is going to be a pink girl all the way.

This week was one of extremes – both good and bad. I was out of sorts on Friday, Lucy was out of sorts Sunday/Monday and in between things were normal. Lucy seems to get upset when she sees lots of new faces or is placed in new situations. At home, in her usual routine she is an angel. But throw in a visitor or some different noises and she is put out. She particularly did not enjoy church last week when so many people kept getting close to her and talking to her so I had to take her straight home. Yet put her on a blanket on the floor where she can watch what is going on and she can giggle and actually laugh for up to an hour. She is a girl of changeable moods!

Lucy is making lots of noises and coos. She has a funny little laugh which is more like a croak and loves to smile. Her hands still go in her mouth and she likes to suck them. There is lots of drool so we have started making use of bibs.

The week we:

  • Went out for dinner at Kamari’s (Greek) in Brighton while Lucy was baby sat by grandma and granddad
  • Went out for lunch at Kiki’s (Thai) in Brighton for Laura and Ben’s SWAG farewell
  • Exercised at our first fitness class for mums and bubs in Jannali
  • Started cleaning up the two junk rooms. We now have some “new” lounges downstairs, some space in the real junk room and some space in the study.
  • Had dinner with Ken, Christina and Nicholas. Lucy and Nicholas held hands for a few seconds (they did it themselves!) but it all ended in tears. Lucy cried and then Nicholas cried in sympathy

How cool is this photo!

Another week, another broken appliance! This time it’s the deep freezer and given that it is older than me it is not repairable.

Here is Lucy in her 11th week. She managed to hold onto a rattle with one hand and an alien toy in the other hand, wave them around and smile at the same time!

Having spent a few rainy days at home without going out, Lucy is now very good at getting to sleep in her bed during the day. There is a lot less crying and not too much fussing. Generally I put her in bed, then she cries, I resettle her after a few minutes and then she goes to sleep.

Here is a typical day for Lucy:

  • 07:15am Wake up and feed
  • 07:45am Lie in mum and dad’s bed and be read to
  • 08:30am Sleep
  • 11:00am Feed
  • 11:30am Go out with mum or play
  • 12:30pm Sleep
  • 03:00pm Feed
  • 03:30pm Play on my playgym or sheepskin. Sing, laugh and giggle
  • 06:00pm Feed
  • 06:30pm Play in my bouncer. Watch what’s going on
  • 08:30pm Sleep
  • 10:30pm Feed
  • 11:00pm Sleep

This week we:

  • Went to the Baby Health Clinic to learn about sleeping and settling
  • Had dinner with Ben & Jackie
  • Went to Miranda Westfield on the last day of school holidays (a big mistake!)

  • Lunch for Rose’s birthday
  • Bible Study including cooking dinner (baked pumpkin, chickpea and vegetable curry, steamed strawberry pudding)
  • Caught up with a group of local mums. Lucy lay on the floor and giggled for an hour.
  • Although I have documented above some of the notable things we did during the week, most of the time is spent feeding, cleaning, washing etc. There was a great article in The Australian on the weekend which described my days perfectly… very busy, 8 days a week.

What a beautiful baby! Big blue eyes, a round face and a happy smile.

Lucy has continued with her good sleeping patterns either sleeping through the entire night or waking at 5am to be settled (and going back to sleep until 7am). We are reading ‘The Horse and his Boy’ from the Narnia series each morning before Andrew goes to work each day.

Lucy is very contented and does lots of laughing and giggling after most feeds. She loves singing especially ‘the wheels on the bus’ and ‘if you’re happy and you know it’ and does all the actions (with a little help from mum). She is gaining neck control and loves to look around a room and focus on light.

    This week we:

    • Had lunch with Grandma and Grandad as well as being babysat during church (thanks to Grandad for rushing out to buy nappies when we turned up with an empty change bag)

    • Visited Jean in hospital
    • Did some gardening (which mostly involved digging up weed mat from the front garden and removing dead plants)
    • Ate strawberries and cream while watching Wimbledon
    • Watched the penalty shoot out for the World Cup final
    • Dinner with Dave & Kel which included watching 2 episodes of Iron Chef (onion and lamb battles)

    • Lunch with Lisa
    • First trip to Miranda Westfield in the pram

The word of the week is sleep!

Well I said last week that the 8 week mark was magical and indeed we had some big milestones during the week. We visited the baby health clinic for Lucy’s 2 month check-up and the nurse declared her “perfect”! Here is the rundown for the week…

    1. Lucy moved up a nappy size. We are now using those pink boxes of nappies that had been hidden away in the craft room for so long. Hopefully there will be another special on at Coles soon.

    2. Fiona was feeling the effects of sleep deprivation by Sunday night! After 8 weeks of broken sleep it was starting to catch up. The clinic nurse told us that in war situations enemy soldiers are subjected to sleep deprivation as a form of torture and therefore we needed to make sure we got enough rest to look after our babies properly. After feeding Lucy at 5:15am and watching the rest of the Brazil v France soccer game, it was a very very long day. Andrew prayed that both Lucy and I would have some long deep sleep.

    3. Lucy slept through the night on Sunday! Her last feed was at 10:30pm and she then slept until 6:45am. She stirred a bit at 4am and 5am which woke me up but she put herself back to sleep. At 6am there was more grunting and I jumped out of bed but again she went to sleep as I got to the door.

    4. Lucy slept through the night on Monday night and Wednesday night without disturbing anyone! Though she didn’t quite make it on Tuesday (5am), it seems that we have reached a fantastic milestone.

    Also during the week we:

    • Converted the pram from using the bassinet to using the stroller bit so that Lucy can sit up and look around

    • Went whale watching at Kurnell (but didn’t see any whales)
    • Visited Andrew’s work at Lucas Heights for a BBQ in the rain! Lucy met lots of people and Fiona got to look around the labs

    • Waved goodbye to Lynda at the airport
    • Afternoon tea at a café in Cronulla and saw a very embarrassing Hawthorn game

    • Ate lunch with Dave & Kel at Nulla Nulla
    • Her hair has started to grow back (a lovely brown colour)

    • Lucy discovered that her hands are good to put in her mouth!
