1 year and 1 week

Lucy turned 1 on Friday. We celebrated with a pancake breakfast (with maybe a little too much sugar dad!) She got lots of presents including a Noah’s ark, sandpit, clothes, books and much much more. She had a great time playing with the wrapping paper, ribbons and balloons and once these were away with her toys!
Lucy’s party was great fun and we had a lovely afternoon tea at Airlie Gardens. Although we had to move the picnic part way through from the Spring Garden to another garden, we had a great time and even had a view of the intracoastal waterway. I cooked up a storm of magnolia chocolate cupcakes, hundreds of scones, and icecream sandwiches. Plenty of strawberries and whipped cream as well as sandwiches, cheeses and dips. Lucy had a very pretty dress on and sat in the centre of the picnic playing with her toys. The birthday cake was a ladybird! The most amazing part of the day was that it rained from around 11am until 2:20pm and looked extremely bleak with black skies. We were worried about what to do if it kept raining as there is no shelter in the gardens. At 2:20pm the rain stopped, the sun came out and it was very warm and humid. The weather stayed perfect until around 6:30pm when it started pouring with rain again. By 5:30pm Lucy was exhausted and just wanted to cuddle up and go to sleep. She got lots of beautiful presents from everyone and went to bed a very happy girl.
Lucy started day care on Monday and she is going 2 days a week. I could tell she enjoyed it when on Tuesday we entered the room she let out a huge squeal of excitement. She is the only child in her room (12-20 months) that is not walking yet so hopefully she will learn from the others. The teachers said that she fitted in very well and had a great first 2 days. Mum had a good time too!
Lucy’s new cot, mattress and change table arrived during the week and she is enjoying sleeping in her bed. The cot is convertible into a toddler bed then a full sized bed – ready for when she starts to climb out of the cot. We invested in plastic covers for the rails so that there are no teeth marks. It is good to have a change table after changing Lucy on the floor for 6 weeks and having her crawl away part way through!

I haven’t decided whether to continue with this blog on a weekly basis. I may drop back to monthly… you’ll have to wait and see!

It seems so strange to be writing 52 weeks old!!!! Yes Lucy is turning 1 tomorrow. We have lots of fun things planned but the main event is her birthday party on Saturday at Airlie Gardens. Everyone is welcome to join us!
In the last week we have celebrated Andrew’s birthday, been to the Aquarium and beach, attended church, looked at houses, watched Curious George, been grocery shopping, cooked up a storm of cupcakes and just played around at home. It has been busy.
New things:
- Lucy loves blackberries
We have nearly finished the whole Narnia series! Just a few chapters to go in the The Last Battle. It has been great fun reading these books together as a family. Any suggestions for the next series? Email them to baby@thoms.com
There is a mountain of presents all wrapped up as well as a mountain of picnic supplies and food. Can’t wait for tomorrow!!!
