13 months old

Mon 04 Jun 2007

The gorgeous Lucinda is now 13 months old. A lot has happened in the past month including a long weekend in Charleston, purchasing a house here in the US, and starting daycare. She is still a very happy girl but does like to get her own way and will let us know very clearly if she isn’t getting it. She is extremely social and loves to see new people and wave to them but she is now a little wary of being picked up or touched by strangers. She is still generally having two sleeps a day except at daycare where she only has one and comes home exhausted. The latest news is that she has just had her 7th tooth cut through.

We met our new pediatrician Dr Hill who was very nice. At her twelve month check-up Lucy took a lead test (which involved squeezing lots of blood out of her toe), got a Hepatitis A injection and was the subject of a behavioural questionnaire. There was no big deal about the injections and no warnings about symptoms to look out for. We got asked if we had city water (we do) because otherwise we would have to buy water with fluoride. All of the medical records are now electronic so we can get a copy of everything emailed to us when we move back to Australia. Lucy was deemed to be very social especially when she offered her dummy to the doctor. She will get her chicken pox injection at the next check up in 3 months time. From a stats perspective she is extremely tall at 32.5 inches (82.6cm which is off the chart), weight 22lb 10oz (10.5 kg) and head circumference 47cm (yes for some reason they measure the head in cm?!) Even though she is tall you can’t really tell because she isn’t walking but it does mean that she can reach things you didn’t think she could. I have put away a lot of her clothes and she is now wearing 18 month or 2 year sizes.

Here is a video of Lucy at play:

Lucy is doing lots of new things:

  • Says ‘narna’ for banana when she sees one (without any prompting!) Also says ‘roah’ for Noah and ‘ro’ for a lion’s roar

  • Made lots of new friends at moms group including Madison, Mia, Cooper, Violet, Lily, Reese, Abigail and many more (so many girls – Danie you would be impressed)
  • Was bitten at daycare by a little boy! She had a big bruise on her arm which went away after 2 days. She was wary of other kids for a few days after that.
  • First bout of sickness. A gastro bug plus a head cold at the same time. The runny nose has lasted for just over 2 weeks and of course she picked both up at daycare!
  • Doesn’t like to be strapped into the car seat or pram for any length of time. In the pram we just put the straps around her legs and she leans forward to hold on to the bar with one hand whilst waving to passers by with the other (and sometimes pointing rudely at them… and often they point back!)
  • The latest bath time book is ‘James and the Giant Peach’ by Roald Dahl. We had an exciting conclusion to Narnia and after some consultation at the book shop we are now reading through a series of classic books.
  • Whilst not standing or walking Lucy can cruise around furniture very easily now and can let go for a second or two before realizing she can’t stand up without holding on. She has some ‘squeaky’ shoes that she likes to stomp around in (and don’t worry the ‘squeaks are removable!)
  • She likes to feed herself and at lunch and dinner does not want anyone else involved. She drinks well from a sippy cup. She likes lots of different food including gumbo, olives and graham crackers but her favourite food is raisins.
  • Lucy has spent some time with Rory and Aidan (some other Aussies) and is looking forward to playing with her new neighbour Ava who is 14 months old and has a dog! She continues to love seeing Daddy drive home from work as well, loves playing the bath and being squirted with water and loves being spun around/thrown around/tossed around etc. She has discovered swings and loves to go very high. Here is a very cool video of her giggling whilst swinging.
