Lucy can almost walk! She can stand fairly well without holding on to anything and can take 1 to 5 steps before falling over. She is also able to sit down gently from standing up. Soon she will be running around! Lucy has become very adept at climbing on and into boxes and can generally get around anywhere. If she stands on her tippy toes she can reach door handles. We have been having great fun in the backyard. It is very hot and humid so we have been making the most of the paddling pool and hose. Lucy hasn’t learnt how to work the hose yet but soon she will be spraying Daddy!

Lucy has gone through a few growth spurts and is eating like a horse, for example yesterday she had 4 pancakes and 4 strawberries for breakfast. Some 18 month t-shirts are too small so she is wearing size 2. Her favourite food at the moment is banana and I am not joking in saying that if Lucy was determining her diet she would eat 3-4 bananas a day. Here is her diet for a typical day:

  • Breakfast – bowl of cereal with fruit puree, piece of plain raisin toast, 1 peach and 200ml milk
  • Morning tea – banana, 2 biscuits
Lunch – almond butter sandwich, mozzarella cheese stick, grapes
  • Afternoon tea – rice cake, blueberries
  • Dinner – tuna pasta, strawberries, 200ml milk

Some new things for Lucy this month:

  • Can touch her head and then her mouth when asked to
  • Has 8 teeth. When she laughs she tilts her head back and shows all her teeth in a cheeky grin
  • Clingy for mum and dad in new environments or when tired
  • Can speed read through books. Loves books but mainly just wants to turn the pages as fast as she can. She gets impatient if mum reads too slow.
  • Will wear a hat for a substantial amount of time. Previously I couldn’t even put one on her and now she will happily wear one.
  • Our bath book is ‘The Wind in the Willows’

Lucy was pretty sick earlier in the month. After a lot of different theories we visited Dr Hill who pronounced an ear infection in her left ear. After some antibiotics the fevers were gone and our happy little girl returned. We had a couple of wakeful nights but once healed she got back into her 12 hour sleeping pattern again.

Due to some shipping problems by the Land of Nod we are still waiting for Lucy’s book case to be delivered before her room can be set up properly. We have lots of cool decorations and pictures to go up when it is installed.

We also had a fantastic weekend trip to Boston to visit the Mallards. She met Jack, Kack and the other ducklings. She also saw many live ducks on the pond as well as turtles and swans. Heaps of people in the park especially families and dog walkers. Lucy appreciated the dogs more than the ducks! We took a ride on the famous Swan Boats around the lagoon looking at the ducks, the island and the nesting swans on the bank. Lucy had a great time but it was worrying that there were no safety rails and it is a miracle she didn’t throw herself into the water for a closer look. Lucy was reasonably behaved on all flights with almost no crying but she did not sleep! Always a very energetic girl she seemed to get more active throughout each journey. It was hard traveling with a 13 month almost-walker by myself! We read the 5 books we had at hand at least 50 times each! With Andrew on the way back it was much easier even though she did launch herself back and forth between us frequently.

FLASHBACK – 14 months vs 14 weeks
Do you remember Lucy being this small and not being able to sit up without props? Seems like a long time ago now!
