You guessed it! Lucy is running around creating havoc. It is so fun to say ‘Lucy let’s go to your room now’ and off she walks to her room. She has reached some super cool milestones this month which I’ll let you know about but first back to the walking. After taking a few steps at a time she just started walking. Now she can run but doesn’t watch where her feet are going and often finds herself on the floor. She is a tough girl who quickly gets up after cuts, scrapes and falls. She can ride around on her bike (both forwards and backwards) getting on and off by herself. Now we are learning about stairs and holding hands to cross the road.

In other exciting news Lucy no longer has a passy! (a dummy in Australian) It was one of our long term goals to get rid of it and she nearly did at the 10 month mark but we were in the middle of moving. Since then things have been a little busy so we waited for a good spell at home with no traveling. She only had the dummy for naps in any case so it only took 2 nights for her to give it up and she does not miss it! Bill and Franz keep her company and she is still sleeping 12 hours at night plus 2 regular naps during the day.

Lucy has started babbling a lot and it is really cute to hear. But last week she learnt to say no! I often say to her ‘no no no no no’ when she is going somewhere she shouldn’t. She has obviously been listening because she now says ‘no no no no no’ when she doesn’t want something. At least she waited until now to learn no! Her favourite words are mum and dad but she has a range of other words that we can interpret and lots that we can’t. She understands a lot more than she can communicate. We have started a signing class and she can already do a couple of signs so hopefully we will have good communication soon.

Lucy has learnt a couple of other body parts and she can point to her hair, head, mouth, nose, ears, belly, foot and hand. We have also started working on ‘mat time’ where Lucy plays on her mat by herself for a period of time (she doesn’t like it much). She does likes ‘reading time’ after lunch. She is reaching a really fun age as she understands lots of things even though she can’t speak.

Lucy has become a little helper around the house. When she hears the dryer beep she runs down the hallway to help clean the lint out. When the dishwasher is opened she helps to put away the cutlery. Now I just have to teach her to mop the floor! ;)

Lucy had a cold during the month which she passed on to me as well. All these American germs are getting annoying! Poor girl was not sick in Australia at all and we move here and she is sick once a month. At the moment she is teething and has 2 molars coming through at the bottom. She has been very good and we mainly noticed when she had nappy rash and wondered why. She was unhappy this morning and took some Tylenol but mostly she has been awesome.

We have been swimming quite a lot and spending time at the beach. So you will notice a number of photos at Wrightsville beach or in the backyard. Lucy and Ava have been playing together as well and now we have a gate between our houses for easy access. Lucy likes the sand again after going through a stage of not wanting to touch it. We have a cool sprinkler tyre in the backyard that she likes to walk through.

I promised a few photos of Lucy’s new furniture so here they are:

Crib, bookcase and armchair (child size)

Change table, craft table and outdoor table

Picture, bathroom (shower) and bathroom (sink) with frog theme

We also made Lucy a house out of the cardboard boxes we got her furniture in. Here is a photo of her in the house. She doesn’t like crawling in tunnel (double garage) much but is a big fan of opening and closing the door as well as looking out the windows. Andrew is in the middle of wallpapering the house.

And here are some other photos of Lucy from July:
