Lucy, as she now calls herself, is almost two! This is obvious by her behaviour which is about pushing boundaries and being disobedient with a cheeky grin. We now have a ‘timeout’ mat for naughty deeds. However she is still a happy girl – her mood at daycare one day was ‘cowgirl’ as she was so wild and crazy (in a good way!) Her hair is getting long and can get a little crazy in the wind so Gabriel nicknamed her ‘wild hair Lucy’.

We didn’t have a fun month during March! For the first two and a half weeks Lucy had diarrhea, then we had a great Easter week and then finally finished off the last week with a cold. We thought she had the stomach flu that was going around but she didn’t have any other symptoms and wasn’t complaining. So we spent 6 straight days at home! We were supposed to start potty training that particular week but instead I spent most of the week cleaning poo off the cot! I guess I would have been cleaning poo anyway! But what made the cleaning job worse was that each time there was an accident in her bed Lucy tried to help clean up by getting new nappies, wipes and clothes out of her drawers. This just made even more washing! After 6 days I was going a little crazy. Then I happened to look in Lucy’s mouth and saw 4 new molars. This little girl was teething!! She hasn’t had diarrhea when teething before but she has had nappy rash. So there was no potty training but we do have new teeth and new drawer locks. Now we are going to put off potty training until we’ve been on a couple of little holidays that are coming up.

However there were some good fun things we did during the month: celebrated Easter (check out americancorrespondent for the details), celebrated Ava’s 2nd birthday, made a mailbox and posted letters, went to the accountant (see the photo of Lucy with her handbag, phone and book), did lots and lots of gardening and went to the beach.

Other developments:

  • When asked what she would like for breakfast Lucy always says ‘pancakes’
  • Whilst gardening one day she insisted on taking her pants and nappy off and running around the front yard naked
  • She likes to shut doors
  • Lucy likes dancing but can’t jump
  • Ignores the words ‘stop’ and ‘no’ which led to a horrible incident of her running down the street with cars heading towards her (she is OK!!!)
  • Lucy learned to look at the camera and say cheese!

In the past week Lucy’s language skills have vastly improved. She likes to repeat everything you say and she is regularly putting two or three words together. She knows quite a lot of alphabet letters and often reads out letters in funny places (for example the Bosch label on the washing machine gets spelled out). I am looking forward to the next month to discover what new words she is going to learn!

Lucy is turning 2 next month so stay tuned for a bumper entry next month (after I recover from her birthday party!) But I’ll let you into a secret now – her party is themed around butterflies!
