Lucy drew a picture of a christian person. I asked her if it was a picture of her and she said no.
Mum: Are you a Christian?
Lucy: No
Mum: Why not?
Lucy: Because I’m Australian!

and just to prove it, here is a photo of her with vegemite on her nose.

- Cowgirl Lulu
Lucinda Rose Thoms is 4 years old! She was born in Australia at 11:15pm which conveniently turned out to be 9:15am US Eastern. This meant we could celebrate the exact time without having to stay up really late.
Lucy (jointly with Henry) received a playset for the backyard. It is very large and only just fitted in the garage. Andrew and I spent many many hours putting it together. We did it all in secret at night. Lucy has asked people to give her books for her birthday so in that line of thinking she thought we were building her a bookshelf. She was very pleased to find out that it was a playset with 3 swings, a slide, a rockwall and a picnic table.
Andrew took the day off work and took Lucy to Cracker Barrel for lunch. He also made pancakes for breakfast. I organised a playdate for her friends from the mom’s group and made vanilla vanilla cupcakes with purple coloured frosting. We also gave her 2 board games, some nail polish and bubble bath, a ladybug girl book, some sticker crafts, some drawing paper and a purple maglite.
On Saturday she is had a pony party and you can see her above dressed up as a cowgirl! (It was extremely hot. Henry lasted about 10 minutes in his suit and Lucy was sweating in her outfit)
So what is Lucy like at 4 years old?
- She is still shy with new people and situations. But she is VERY noisy otherwise. She has difficulty keeping her excitement or frustration to herself – it is squealed out to everyone
- She has a very good memory
- She has a very vivid imagination and makes up amazing and interesting stories
- She still likes eating. She requested salmon for her birthday dinner
- Bill is still her favourite bear
- She likes twirling
- She has just discovered drawing and likes to draw people
- She LOVES to read. She cannot get enough of it. Hopefully over the summer I can teach her to read the words.
- She is a good big sister often getting things for Henry that he needs without being asked
- She can write her name neatly and legibly
- Her favourite colours are purple, pink and green (and now maybe orange)
- Her friends are Lilia, Grace, Ava T and Ava M
- She wants to marry Gabriel
- She loves toasting marshmallows on the campfire
- She loves dressing up and making up stories
- She LOVES to swing. She LOVES her cowgirl boots. She LOVES to swing in her cowgirl boots.
- She is super tall for her age. Most people think she is 6
- She wears size 6-7 clothes and size 1 shoes
- She tells me her favourite food is corn (??!?)
- Her favourite TV show is Curious George. Although she has lots of Dora merchandise she has never watched Dora. She also likes playschool
- She loves Movie Night Fridays (even if she only gets to watch 20 minutes each week) This week we’re watching La Nouba
- She is very cuddly and always give me a good morning cuddle before demanding her vitamin gummy bear
- At her last dentist visit she sat in the regular dentist chair and did AWESOMELY well (including getting xrays)
- She weighs about 44 pounds. We’re going to the doctor tomorrow for her annual checkup so I can update tomorrow
Happy birthday gorgeous Lulu Ladybug. Now you can have 4 kisses on your nose before sleep!

Cowboy Henry
Henry is 10 months old. He is such a cuddly, pinchable, smiley boy that everyone adores him. He is very popular at church and I rarely hold him as there are so many willing arms.
Some other updates:
- on Lucy’s birthday he took his first steps (three in a row). He now takes steps frequently but isn’t walking yet. He cruises and crawls very fast.
- he puts anything and everything in his mouth. I frequently pull out bark, paper and even pebbles from his jaws (which he attempts to clamp shut)
- he hates having his nose wiped (he’s got a cold)
- he still wakes up once a night for a bottle. For the past month its been at midnight but its just switched this week to 4am
- he loves chewing on lamb bones
- he hates being strapped into his highchair so he arches his back every time we approach it
- he still loves bath time but now instead of sitting in his chair he likes to stand in his chair
- he has his first pair of black converse shoes (size 4)
- he is wearing size 18-24 months (the cowboy suit above is size 18 months and I could hardly get him in it)
- he has a third tooth. And it is as weird as it sounds. His first two teeth are at the bottom in the middle. The third tooth is on the top, way to the left.
- he still loves banana but he also likes olives, cucumber, sweet potato, lamb, and spaghetti bolognese.
- he still says dadadada continually as well as letting out lots of grunts (loud grunts!), sometimes he says mamamamama but not to me. When he is unhappy about something his grunts become ALOT louder
- he loves waiting out on the front lawn for daddy to come home from work
- he is not sure about his new swing set. he likes it for a while but doesn’t like the restriction of being strapped in
We can’t wait for 12 months – cow’s milk, turning the car seat around, walking etc
When discussing the leftover cupcakes from her birthday playdate:
Lucy: Daddy you can take the cakes to work to share with your friends from Silex”
[How on earth did she know he works for Silex?]
When discussing going out for her birthday lunch with Dad:
Lucy: Daddy, Henry and me are going to Cracker Barrel for lunch
Mum: What about me?
Lucy: You can stay home and clean up
Mum: Thanks!!
